Last week I had the pleasure of photographing the artist and illustrator John Vernon Lord, at his studio in Sussex. John began his career in the early sixties as a freelance illustrator, taking on commissions that included, interiors, garden layouts and an album cover designed for the rock band Deep Purple. (The Book of Taliesyn)
During the seventies he moved on to book illustration and produced a number of children's books including The Giant Jam Sandwich, The Truck on the Road, The Runaway Roller Skate and books for older readers. - The Nonsense Verse of Edward Lear, edited and introduced by John Vernon Lord - Aesop's Fables edited and introduced by John Vernon Lord and The Doodles and Diaries of John Vernon Lord and many more.
More than 50 years on, John is stil busy drawing, doodling and story telling. When I visited last week, he was working on a CD cover commission for musician Josh Burnell.
Some of John's Doodles and Diaries are on display untill the 16th April 2017 at The Ditchling Museum of Art and Craft http://www.ditchlingmuseumartcraft.org.uk/events/category/whats-on/current/
